Mama's Creations (MAMA) - A Diversified Food Supplier with Strong Growth Ambitions

The company has a vision of becoming $1 billion business that “owns” the fresh deli space, through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions.

In this business breadowns I team up with MicroCapClub member Andrew Rem of Odinson Partners to break down the business of Mama's Creations (MAMA). We sit down with Chairman and CEO Adam Michaels, and Chief Marketing Officer Lauren Sella.

Mama’s Creations, Inc. is a food business that seeks to be a “one-stop-shop” deli supplier. The company originally started selling a single product, Italian meatballs, but have since grown their product portfolio into other Italian cuisine along with salads, sandwiches, olives, soups, pizza and even some initial items in Asian cuisine. Their primary distribution channel is grocery and club. They have a nascent online presence and are very early in making in-roads in the convenience store channel.

The business was an operational turnaround with the arrival of CEO Adam Michaels CFO Anthony Gruber in September of 2022. Over the next 12 months they improved operations, profitability, and added resources in operations, sales and marketing. As operational improvements were sustained, investments in sales and marketing are beginning to show progress as sales have accelerated nicely over the last twelve months. The company has a vision of becoming $1 billion business that “owns” the fresh deli space, through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions. They have room to grow within the deli space, as they continue to build out their product portfolio. In addition, while they have a nice customer list including Costco, Sam's Club, Publix, Aldi, Albertsons, BJ’s and others, there remains room to penetrate even larger customers such as Walmart, Target, and Kroger.  Finally, outside grocery channel there’s C-store which provides optionality for further growth.
